Asheville Design Center + NC State's Inaugural Design-Build Studio
This interactive studio will explore the process of developing a conceptual solution to a problem and translating it into a built space in a community-based
context. Drawing on both architecture and landscape architecture proposals and explorations, students will design, test, and build a small outdoor classroom in the Burton Street Peace Garden in Asheville, NC. Emphasis will be placed on community engagement, construction documentation, affordability, working with deadlines, material analysis and exploration, and environmental considerations in the construction of the space. In conjunction with the mission of the garden, students will explore the use of salvaged and waste materials as well as new materials.
